Guangzhou Part 1: Beautiful Views

I went to China this summer where I spent my time primarily in Guangzhou.  I had so much fun in Guangzhou, am grateful for my kind loving host family and ate a TON of great food. I felt so lucky to wake up every day to this view.

You can guess from lush green vegetation that Guangzhou has a warm humid climate. This picture was taken of part of the walk away along the Pearl River where many citizens enjoy taking an evening stroll or bike along.

I think many people have a misconception that China is still undeveloped and behind the times but that couldn’t be further from the truth in Guangzhou. It’s a huge, highly developed city with sky-scrapers, an extensive public transit network, and accessibility to pretty much anything you would ever want to eat, buy or do. This is a night view of the area called 珠江新城.

This is one of the bridges that takes us from the south side of the Pearl River to the North. I crossed  this bridge countless times during my stay: to meetings at the hospital, to dinners out, to sight-seeing spots, to late-night dessert, and more.

On the north side of this bridge is a must-see sightseeing spot in GZ called Shamian Island. GZ was formerly colonized by a number of European countries, and Shamian Island is where those countries each constructed buildings in their country’s distinctive style.  Besides tourists, we saw locals there for dates and photoshoots.

At Shamian Island, we checked out a modern art exhibition called “Why Consciousness”.

No visit to Guangzhou would be complete without a visit to GZ’s landmark, Canton Tower! I recommend splurging on the Bubble Tram that circles the top of the tower.
