My First Week of Med School

Monday August 20th 2018 was our first day of Med School. I think the first three pictures captured how happy and excited I felt to starting my first day of medical school. Our first week included lots of lectures, our first cadaver dissection, a histology lab, lunch with our Second Year Buddies, and trying to remember as many names as possible.   I wanted to push myself out of my comfort zone as much as I could and make new friends in the week so I went to almost every event.   I didn’t take too many pictures because I was so busy enjoying the experience but here’s the fun orientation events schedule made by one of our Orientation leaders. People in my class are great in academics and have impressive achievements but also really know how to have fun! The upper years organized events such as Pub Night, Sports Day, the Pre-Progress Test Party, and the Wine & Cheese Mixer for us.

It’s been getting to meet so many new fun and easy to talk classmates over the last week. I I look forward to getting to know more of my future colleagues and excited about the journey ahead for all of us! Thank you to all our mentors, friends, colleagues, and family members whose support and love allowed us to chase our dreams of becoming physicians.I feel privileged to have many opportunities to learn medicine and to also have fun, so again, thank you to everyone whose support allowed me to have this chance!

Last week was packed with socializing because it also the first week I’m back in Vancouver since June. I spent quality time with my elementary school best friends, grandparents, aunt, cousins, high school friends,  and university friends. It was also Veena’s birthday so a bunch of us went to watch the movie Crazy Rich Asians and grab bubble tea.

This week was more laid-back. The early portion of this week  are hazy in memories because I wasn’t feeling well. Yesterday, I got a chunk done on a research project and after I’m finish this blog post, I’m going to the gym with one of my friends.  Getting sick reminded that it’s important to step back and take time for my health , so I’m going to be more conscious about getting more sleep and exercise. I know many of you reading this also love to pack your calendars with productivity and social plans, so I hope you all take time for self-care too!

Thanks to Aishwi for reading my blog and asking me when  I would post again. I hope to share with you all now and again how my journey through medical school is going, so hope you’ll check back here once in a while. 🙂 Wish you all the best of luck on whatever goals you’re working hard towards!
